In a meeting with visiting President of the Belgian Senate Christine Defraigne in Tehran, the president also criticized the Europeans for failing to deal with terror threats in due time.
“Unfortunately, in the years when terrorism began to grip people in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, Europe remained indifferent to some extent, and only engaged in the fight against this evil phenomenon after it extended to Europe,” the president noted.
Rouhani described terrorism as a great threat to the entire world. He also stressed that all resources must be mobilized to uproot terror.
Rouhani emphasized that terrorists should not be divided into good and bad ones in pursuit of “short-term interests.”
The president called for the fight against all types of terror groups.
He pointed out that everyone should help cut the flow of money and weapons to the terrorist groups, particularly the ones operating in the Middle East region.
The Iranian president further said that terrorist must not be allowed to loot Syria oil and Iraqi antiquities
Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani added that that the landmark nuclear accord between Iran and the P5+1 states – Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany – last July-- proved that dialogue is the key to the resolution of complicated global issues.
President Rouhani highlighted the need for the enhancement of Tehran-Brussels ties in all areas, particularly economy.
Senate Christine Defraigne also praised Iran’s efforts in the fight against terrorism, stressing the Islamic Republic’s vital role in shielding regional stability.
It is notable that Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic through his speeches and messages frequently stressed the need to confront all types of violence and terrorism.
Following the footsteps of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Iranian officials have played leading role in confronting the terrorism in the Mideast region and elsewhere.
Iran has extended his help to the governments and people of Iraq and Syria to counter terrorist groups wreaking havoc across these countries.
